Rose Gold Stainless Steel Straws

Rose Gold Stainless Steel Straws

Rose gold is a mixture of yellow gold, copper and silver. The copper gives it a redder color than yellow gold naturally has.

The silver helps to tone down the redness of the copper, achieving a subtle pink shade.
Yes. When it comes to purity, rose gold is no different from yellow gold or white gold.

UK hallmarked 18K gold contains 75% gold. 9K gold contains 38% gold. This is regardless of whether the gold is white, yellow or rose gold in colour.

But, with Rose Gold Stainless Steel Straws, you are looking at something completely different.

THE FASHION INDUSTRY has a long history with rose gold, a color that exists somewhere between luxury and fashion. It's not as gaudy as gold, or as timeless. It goes in and out of style, and right now it's very much back in. In the consumer electronics world, especially, rose gold is enjoying its inaugural moment.

Color is hard to talk about without sounding like you've dropped acid, but people do associate colors with feelings and emotions. You can't quantify whether or why people like colors—"like" is so subjective a term—but you can determine what it makes them feel.

Leatrice Eiseman, a color expert and executive director of the Pantone Institute, the semi-deified experts on color, has seen this first hand.

"There's a lot of research that goes into what color means," she says, "and how it makes a statement to most people." Rose gold has the same effect on almost everyone.

"When we get to the rose family, we get these same kinds of verbiage: Compassion, composure, warmth, something that draws you in that has great appeal."

Each winter, the Pantone Institute names its colors of the year, trying to capture what everyone is thinking and feeling within that color.

The video accompanying the 2016 selection of Rose Quartz, a kissing cousin to rose gold, and a shade of blue called Serenity, is particularly telling. It opens with a montage of desperately serious things: Protests, fights, riots, the word hashtag for some reason.

It feels like a subliminal brainwashing video, something meant to be felt, not noticed. Suddenly, the clouds part, the music slows, and the heartbeat of the video slows as Rose Quartz and Serenity fill the screen.

These colors, Eiseman says, are "an answer to the stress of modern-day lives. A yearning for reassurance."

The institute selected Rose Quartz because it wanted something that conveys a "sense of order and peace, something that speaks to people. Something that has a bit more mindfulness attached to it.

But the real beauty of rose gold is what it says about the world and why it's proven so popular. Consumers love it for the subliminal sense of peace and calm it provides in an increasingly hectic world.

Companies love it because it conveys opulence and comfort, two things that aren't easily communicated with a metal rectangle.

Ultimately, a rose gold stainless steel straw is more than a just a straw. It's a choice, a decision that says something about what you value. And "if it ends up not working out for you," you might say, laughing, "it’s not like you can't get another straw sometime soon..."
